About Rebel Teacher Alliance

Teachers rethinking student engagement.

Rebel Teacher Alliance is a podcast for teachers about student engagement — the kind that comes from gamification, playful learning, and practical classroom moves you can actually use on Monday morning. We talk about what works with real students, and we're honest about the parts of teaching that don't fit neatly into a lesson plan: hard history, media literacy, and what AI is really doing inside schools right now.

The show is hosted by three educators. Scott Kazarian was a founding member of the podcast alongside Fabian and co-hosted for years before leaving in 2025. Fabian Hofmann teaches high school history and global politics. Jamie Halsey teaches fourth grade. John Meehan is an author and instructional coach who co-created EMC2 Learning, and he is also still in the classroom himself, teaching English to middle school students. Between the three of them the conversation moves from primary classrooms to high school hallways, and it stays grounded in the work teachers are doing today.

Rebel Teacher Alliance began life as "Finding Our Tribe." At Episode 130 we renamed the show to Rebel Teacher Alliance, and the mission stayed the same. New episodes arrive every week or two, and most of them close with "Whatcha been playin'...?" — a segment about the board games keeping us sane, sparking ideas we then steal for the classroom.

Every episode has its own page with full show notes and links to everything we mentioned, so you can listen first and then go find the resources.
